In his final campaign for the house he lead since 1983, Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld join forces once again in creating Chanel’s Spring 2019 Campaign.

The clean-cut studio campaign includes both black-and-white and color images with a diverse model cast including Adesuwa Aighewi, Hyun Ji Shin, Kris Grikaite, Nora Attal, Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Sarah Dahl, and Vittoria Ceretti.

The shots comprise of Chanel’s iconic tweed pieces mixed into a collection of other fun textiles — as well as an interesting take on headwear styling… utilizing the hachimaki, a Japanese style symbol of courage by the wearer. We especially liked how one of the bands depicted a global assortment of flags unifying the collective. One can’t help but think that Karl purposefully chose the hachimaki to represent the honor of self-sacrifice like the Kamikaze pilots, who sported the look while on their purposeful final flights.

As for us, we find upon reviewing the campaign a bittersweet farewell to a leading icon who wore many hats and also knew how to leverage them.
