MICHAEL KORS | ‘ICONS OF STYLE’ EVENT
A NIGHT THAT GOES BEYOND THE EVENING
BY MARISSA TOZZI
Plenty of F words were dropped in the recent “Icons of Style” night at the Ham Yard Hotel in London. Don’t worry — not THAT F word!… Fashion, famous, film, and food, which, pretty music sums up the evening of fashion and film hosted by Michael Kors, Vanity Fair and Fashion & Cinema.
Now, seeing as many brands hold events such as this… what stood out to The Impression was the way the MK team leveraged technology to extend the event beyond those in attendance. Rather than to simply capture the event with the likes of a still photographer and seed out as PR, the team wisely used high-quality film to document the night. A method bringing the event to life while yielding broader outreach to Kors’ vast fanbase.
A celeb-filled panel joined Kors to discuss “Icons of Style” — including a-listers Kate Hudson, Ali MacGraw and Rene Russo. And as we are sure that these ladies could make any topic of conversation interesting, this event called for exploring the role of fashion in American Film. And what better way to go about this than reliving their own movies? Discussed on the panel: Almost Famous (2000), Love Story (1970), and The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) — iconic films starring Hudson, MacGraw and Russo, respectively.
The discussion, led by Vanity Fair’s Elizabeth Saltzman, explores each actresses’ significant fashion moments they inspired in their films and why they were so memorable.
Following the panel, Love Story was played for the audience, followed by Kors hosting his guests at a private dinner taking place at the recently refurbished Ivy restaurant.
Among this #IconsOfStyle crowd were other notable figures such as Marie-Chantal, Erin O’Connor, Clémence Poésy, Crown Princess of Greece, Mario Testino, Uma Thurman and more.
Overall, a commendable event that featured a community of artists coming together to champion the style and cinema of yesterday and today.
